Tocqueville Society

The United Way Alexis de Tocqueville Society was founded by United Way of America in 1984 to deepen the understanding, commitment and support of United Way's most generous and community-minded investors. The national Tocqueville Society recognizes the generosity of individuals and couples who contribute at the highest levels of personal giving, with a minimum annual donation of $10,000 or more.

The Tocqueville Society honors the work of French philosopher Alexis de Tocqueville, who toured America in 1891 and wrote eloquently about the generosity and volunteerism that lives in the American heart. Members
of the society are caring philanthropists who demonstrate an outstanding commitment to improving the quality of life for everyone in South Mississippi.
