Alternative Spring Break
Over 70 students from across the country will travel to South Mississippi to take advantage of their spring break this year. United Way's Alternative Spring Break (ASB) will take place in Biloxi during the week of March 6 - March 12, 2011. These students will work on a number of service projects throughout South Mississippi communities. They will stay right on the beach at the beautiful Seashore United Methodist Assembly (SUMA) and enjoy all that the South has to offer. This is the third year to host ASB at this particular location and we know it will be a blast!
Service Projects
South Mississippi is deep in the process of recovering from the long-term effects of Hurricane Katrina. ASB volunteers will work alongside our community partners to address issues that deal with affordable housing, early childhood education, and building healthy families. These service projects include a wide range of activities, but are designed to fit the skills of all of our volunteers. You will find a list of suggested items to pack in the Participant Emails below. These will be very important as you prepare for your trip.
United Way Worldwide's Alternative Spring Break
Other Student United Ways will also host similar ASB programs with young adult volunteers working on service projects designed to improve the lives of those living in each community. As a national sponsor, Deloitte helped make it possible for these young adults to come together for one great cause. That's what it means to LIVE UNITED. To learn more about ASB or to register for the national program online visit: http://www.liveunited.org/asb/.
